Noting the size of the crowd that gathered\nfor the reception, VCS Department Head Catharine Scott-Moncrieff said, \u201cI\u2019m so\nglad so many people could come out and help us celebrate, or whatever the other\nword is for \u2018celebrate\u2019 when you\u2019re sad that someone is leaving.\u201d&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Scott-Moncrieff recalled when she first met Chris in 1986.&nbsp; \u201cChris is one of the few people who has actually been her longer than me,\u201d Dr. Scott-Moncrieff said.&nbsp; Chris had started at the College in 1984.&nbsp; \u201cChris was one of the key veterinary technicians in small medicine,\u201d Dr. Scott-Moncrieff remembered.&nbsp; \u201cI was fresh off the boat from England.&nbsp; Lara Luke, RVT; Katie Beard, RVT; Nancy Kehrer, RVT; and Melinda Cotton, RVT for a group photo at her retirement reception April 5 in the Continuum Caf\u00e9.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Scott-Moncrieff went on to explain how Chris likes a\nchallenge, and when she decided that she wanted a new challenge she left small\nanimal medicine and moved to ophthalmology. Then she went to small animal\nsurgery and after serving there for a few years, finally decided her real home\nwas in oncology. \u201cAnd I know that the oncology group talks about all the\ncontributions Chris has made, but she basically has all those small animal\ndisciplines down,\u201d Dr. Scott-Moncrieff said, adding, \u201cIf you want to come back\nand help in any area, Chris, you would be welcome.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following retirement, Chris has been following through on plans to move to Denver, Colo., to be close to her granddaughter.\u00a0 Dr. Scott-Moncrieff reflected on the earlier years when she and Chris worked together and Chris told stories about raising her children.\u00a0 \u201cThey were little, and then there were the teenage years, and now she\u2019s moving out to be with her grandchildren and it just seems like time has passed in a flash,\u201d Dr. Scott-Moncrieff said. \u00a0\u201cWe are really going to miss you, but we are really happy for you to finally get to spend time with your family and your grandchildren, and we hope you keep in touch.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Deborah Knapp, Dolores L. McCall Professor of\nComparative Oncology and director of PCOP, also praised Chris both for her hard\nwork as well as for her great attitude and sense of humor.&nbsp; \u201cShe genuinely cares about people,\u201d Dr. Knapp\nemphasized.&nbsp; \u201cWe\u2019ve been extremely\nfortunate to have you on the onco team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Knapp then presented Chris with a commemorative clock in\nrecognition of her retirement.&nbsp; \u201cI just\ncannot thank everyone enough for all your friendship, you\u2019re my family,\u201d Chris\nsaid.&nbsp; \u201cI love all of you, I love this\nplace.\u201d&nbsp; Congratulations Chris and best\nwishes on your retirement!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Colleagues, family, and friends of Chris Royce, RVT, celebrated her career at her retirement reception earlier this month.
