Several familiar events will return to the Open House, including the Teddy Bear Suture Clinic, where kids dress up like surgeons and treat \u201cinjured\u201d teddy bears. Other events and activities include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Spay Surgery Demonstration<\/strong>: Visitors will be able to view a narrated live spay surgery performed on a pet that needs the procedure before being adopted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Walk Through the Heart:<\/strong> First-year veterinary students will guide people through the different chambers of the heart, talk about the importance of parasite preventatives, and help visitors use auscultation models to practice listening to heart sounds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Walk Through the GI Tract:<\/strong> Second-year veterinary students will take visitors on a journey though the four compartments of the GI tract of a horse. They will talk about horse nutrition and common parasites that can affect this part of the body.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Veterinary Nursing Displays:<\/strong> Attendees will be able to view radiographs and guess what is in the patient, and children will be able to use stuffed animals to practice bandaging.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Petting Zoo:<\/strong> Participants will get to interact with a variety of animals, including llamas, donkeys, goats, rabbits, ducklings, chicks, and a cow.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"718\" src=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/20180414_111239-1-1024x718.jpg\" alt=\"Small child reaches for a baby chick held by a Purdue veterinary student\" class=\"wp-image-4269\" style=\"width:400px;height:280px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/20180414_111239-1-1024x718.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/20180414_111239-1-300x210.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/20180414_111239-1-768x538.jpg 768w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/20180414_111239-1-335x235.jpg 335w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/20180414_111239-1.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A visitor sits down to meet a baby chick in the petting zoo at the 2018 PVM Open House.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Other attractions will include a food tent, an opportunity to meet blood donor dogs and exotic pets, and a chance to mingle with therapy pets that are trained to interact with the public in schools, libraries, and assisted living facilities. A search dog, Dash, from Midwest Search Dogs will also be in attendance. Additionally, the Indianapolis Zoo and Columbian Park Zoo will have displays that include artifacts for the public to view.
