The one-day program on Sunday, March 24,\ncovered a broad range of topics that were appealing to veterinary nurses\nworking with both large and small animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The annual symposium is designed to provide veterinary\nassistants, veterinary nursing students, and veterinary nurses with practical\ninformation they can use in clinical practice.&nbsp;\nParticipants were eligible for up to 7.5 hours of continuing education\n(CE) units.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"719\" src=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0269_sm-1024x719.jpg\" alt=\"Heidi Lecsun presents to Veterinary Nursing Symposium attendees\" class=\"wp-image-4229\" style=\"width:400px;height:281px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0269_sm-1024x719.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0269_sm-300x211.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0269_sm-768x540.jpg 768w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0269_sm-335x235.jpg 335w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_0269_sm.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Heidi Lescun, RVT, senior service technician and sales associate with Vetamac, presented a talk entitled, \u201cForm and Function of the Anesthesia Machine\u201d to a full auditorium in Lynn 1136 during the Veterinary Nursing Symposium.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>After a welcome and opening remarks by Dr. Bianca Zenor, <a href=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/nursing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Purdue Veterinary Nursing Program<\/a> director, the program gave participants the chance to choose between large and small animal tracks.&nbsp; Symposium speakers featured Purdue Veterinary Medicine faculty and staff, as well as veterinary nurses from outside practices.&nbsp; Small animal presentations included hospice, dentistry, emergency and critical care, anesthesiology, and cardiology.&nbsp; Large animal sessions covered theriogenology, anesthesiology, equine asthma, and internal medicine topics.&nbsp; Purdue Veterinary Medicine alumna Alicea Howell, RVT, VTS (Behavior), KPA CTP, presented the keynote lecture for symposium attendees entitled, \u201cFear Free Handling \u2013 Veterinary Care for Every Patient.\u201d&nbsp; An afternoon communications workshop was also offered as an optional session for symposium attendees.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the event gave participants the opportunity to\ndevelop their professional networks while interacting with one another and the\nvendors attending the symposium.&nbsp;
