Dr. Nickie Baird, Large Animal Hospital chief of staff and professor of surgery in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, and Megan Brashear, Small Animal Hospital veterinary nursing manager, were among five award recipients honored at the annual convention, which is presented by the North American Veterinary Community (NAVC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/vmx-award-recipients_copy_sm-909x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Megan Brashears and Dr. Nickie Baird pictured with VMX Speaker of the Year Awards\" class=\"wp-image-3567\" width=\"400\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/vmx-award-recipients_copy_sm-909x1024.jpg 909w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/vmx-award-recipients_copy_sm-266x300.jpg 266w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/vmx-award-recipients_copy_sm-768x865.jpg 768w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/vmx-award-recipients_copy_sm-209x235.jpg 209w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/vmx-award-recipients_copy_sm.jpg 1065w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><figcaption>Purdue Veterinary Medicine\u2019s Megan Brashear, CVT, VTS (ECC), and Nickie Baird, DVM, DACVS, were honored this month at NAVC\u2019s Veterinary Meeting and Expo in Orlando, Fla. as recipients of the 2018 VMX Speaker of the Year Award.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Baird was recognized as the Large Animal Speaker of the Year.&nbsp; Megan was honored as the Nurse\/Technician Speaker of the Year.&nbsp; They were selected for the awards, along with the other honorees, based on feedback provided by veterinary professionals from around the world who attended VMX in 2018.&nbsp; A statement on the NAVC website said, \u201cThe NAVC is proud to honor our Speakers of the Year\u2026With a field of 350+ exceptional and nationally renowned veterinary speakers presenting more than 1,200 different sessions, it\u2019s quite an honor to be voted as a top speaker by event attendees.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The award winners initially were announced following last year\u2019s conference, and then were invited to the official awards presentation at this year\u2019s VMX.&nbsp;
