An annual program hosted by two bone marrow experts with Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine ties, once again attracted strong attendance but in a new international location.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, Drs. Joanne B. Messick and Rose E. Raskin were invited to Mexico City to present the Annual Bone Marrow Workshop at the Universidad Nacional Aut\u00f3noma de M\u00e9xico (UNAM). Dr. Messick is professor of veterinary clinical pathology in the Department of Comparative Pathobiology and Dr. Raskin is professor emerita in the same department. Approximately 80 participants attended the workshop, which included a combination of introductory lectures about bone marrow aspirate cytology and core biopsy histopathology with platform presentations highlighting characteristic lesions and diagnostic features in a variety of canine and feline bone marrow cases. The sessions were designed to guide participants through a stepwise approach to marrow evaluation, building confidence and encouraging independent case interpretation skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lectures were followed by two additional days of hands-on case review using both digital images and traditional microscopy. Participants were exceptionally enthusiastic and engaged throughout the workshop, keeping the instructors busy with thoughtful questions and lively discussions.<\/p>\n\n\n

Every other year, Drs. Messick and Raskin host the Bone Marrow Workshop at Purdue University\u2019s College of Veterinary Medicine. In alternating years, they take the workshop on the road\u2014sharing their expertise and enthusiasm for bone marrow evaluation in dogs and cats with veterinary pathologists and clinicians in locations abroad including England, Italy, and now Mexico City, as well as other states in the U.S., including Colorado. Adding to these educational efforts, Dr. Messick is currently writing Canine and Feline Marrow: Diagnostic Evaluation and Pathology \u2014 A Systematic and Case-Based Approach<\/em>, with publication anticipated in summer 2028<\/strong>. The text is designed to provide clinicians, residents, and pathologists with a comprehensive and accessible resource focused on the systematic evaluation of bone marrow disease in veterinary patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
