{"id":31390,"date":"2025-10-31T12:08:49","date_gmt":"2025-10-31T16:08:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/?p=31390"},"modified":"2025-10-31T12:08:50","modified_gmt":"2025-10-31T16:08:50","slug":"united-way-shares-pvm-familys-story-as-college-approaches-its-purdue-united-way-goal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/united-way-shares-pvm-familys-story-as-college-approaches-its-purdue-united-way-goal.php","title":{"rendered":"United Way Shares PVM Family\u2019s Story as College Approaches it\u2019s Purdue United Way Goal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>With the Purdue United Way Campaign in week 6, the United Way of Greater Lafayette shared the story of a Purdue Veterinary Medicine family to highlight just how much impact giving local has on the local community.&nbsp;&nbsp;The story is that of Angela Pickett, executive assistant to the dean, and her son, Charlie, who both have experienced the impact of the United Way and its programs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Angela shared that Charlie, now 17, has participated in various Autism support programs over the last few years. \u201cGrant\u2019s House and the Wabash Center is a bright spot for my family,\u201d Angela said. \u201cMy son participated in their after-school care and summer camp programs, and benefited from their job coaching. I&#8217;ve seen firsthand the positive impact of these services.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a partner agency of the United Way of Greater Lafayette, Wabash Center is dedicated to providing life-changing services for our neighbors with disabilities or special needs. \u201cWith the support of United Way of Greater Lafayette and our partnership with the Purdue Autism Research Center, Wabash Center is growing our services for children and young adults with Autism and more,\u201d said Wabash Center President and CEO Jason McManus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Giving to Purdue United Way helps you make stories like Angela\u2019s possible. Donations support 24 local nonprofits, including the Wabash Center, ensuring that every dollar stays right here in our community. \u201cFor Boilermakers, Purdue United Way isn\u2019t just tradition \u2013 it\u2019s how we show up for our own community,\u201d said Jim Bullard, 2025 Purdue United Way Campaign Champion and the Dr. Samuel R.
