The relationship between Purdue and Kitasato dates back nearly 35 years, while Purdue and Rakuno have worked together since 2016. As part of the exchange relationship, the Japanese students come for two weeks each August. In return, Kitasato welcomes a PVM faculty member every spring, and Rakuno hosts a group of Purdue students every June.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1755050278932-10-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Two Kitasato University veterinary students paused for a photo op during their two week visit to Purdue that concluded Friday, August 15.\" class=\"wp-image-30879\" style=\"width:297px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1755050278932-10-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1755050278932-10-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1755050278932-10.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Two Kitasato University veterinary students paused for a photo op during their two week visit to Purdue that concluded Friday, August 15.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The primary purpose of the Japanese students\u2019 annual visit to Purdue is to spend time in the <a href=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/hospital\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Purdue University Veterinary Hospital<\/a> observing the work done by PVM clinicians and veterinary nurses. \u201cThe program is designed to give them an overview of how veterinary medicine is practiced in the United States,\u201d said PVM <a href=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/global\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Global Engagement<\/a> Director Addison Sheldon. \u201cThe visitors also participated in a variety of other activities, including visiting the Indiana State Fair and the Indianapolis Zoo.\u201d<br><br>Sheldon emphasized that a big thank you is in order for Dr. Tomohito Inoue, lecturer in anesthesiology, for all of his support during their visit.
