{"id":25391,"date":"2024-11-15T12:18:07","date_gmt":"2024-11-15T17:18:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/?p=25391"},"modified":"2024-11-20T22:17:26","modified_gmt":"2024-11-21T03:17:26","slug":"purdue-college-of-veterinary-medicine-hosts-reception-to-welcome-new-dean-bret-marsh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/purdue-college-of-veterinary-medicine-hosts-reception-to-welcome-new-dean-bret-marsh.php","title":{"rendered":"Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine Hosts Reception to Welcome New Dean Bret Marsh"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Faculty, staff and students gathered at a reception in the Veterinary Medical Library Friday, November 8, to help extend a warm welcome the new dean of the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Bret Marsh.&nbsp; The event marked the conclusion of the first week on the job for Dr. Marsh, who just started in the role Monday, November 4, after wrapping-up 30 years of service as Indiana State Veterinarian \u2013 the state\u2019s top-ranking animal health leader.&nbsp; Purdue University Provost Patrick Wolfe had announced Dr. Marsh\u2019s appointment on October 24, following a national search for the successor to Dr. Willie Reed, who served 17-and-a-half years as dean and for whom the Reed <a href=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/addl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory<\/a> on campus is named.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the reception, Dr. Kathy Salisbury, Purdue Veterinary Medicine associate dean for academic affairs, introduced Dr. Marsh as a Purdue alumnus who is a member of the DVM Class of 1984, which recently celebrated its 40<sup>th<\/sup> Class Anniversary.&nbsp; Dr. Salisbury also noted that Dr. Marsh is a first-generation college student from rural Indiana and that he earned his bachelor\u2019s degree in animal sciences from the Purdue College of Agriculture before enrolling in the veterinary college.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After listing some of his many accomplishments, Dr. Salisbury encouraged everyone to join her in welcoming Dean Marsh and helping to smooth his transition by assisting him in learning about all the different aspects of the college.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"737\" src=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/24mamg_085-1024x737.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. Marsh was introduced at the reception by Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Kathy Salisbury\" class=\"wp-image-25393\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/24mamg_085-1024x737.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/24mamg_085-300x216.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/24mamg_085-768x552.jpg 768w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/24mamg_085-1536x1105.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/24mamg_085-2048x1473.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/24mamg_085-1320x950.jpg 1320w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/24mamg_085-scaled.jpg 1300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Dr. Marsh was introduced at the reception by Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Kathy Salisbury<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As Dr. Marsh responded, he thanked Dr. Salisbury, who served as interim dean after Dr. Reed stepped down at the end of June.&nbsp; He also thanked the faculty, staff and students.&nbsp; \u201cYou have been very gracious to me on my first week here,\u201d Dr. Marsh said.&nbsp; He also shared how important it is to him to have the opportunity to meet the people in the college.&nbsp; Pointing out that the Dean\u2019s Office has three doors including one that faces the hallway, Dr. Marsh explained, \u201cAnd I opened that hallway door and it\u2019s been fascinating to see the reaction.&nbsp; People said, I\u2019ve seen that door but I didn\u2019t know what was on the other side of it.&nbsp; And I said, \u2018it\u2019s me!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Marsh added that many people have stopped in to offer their help and congratulations.&nbsp; \u201cI\u2019m excited about the prospects for our college, our hospitals, our diagnostic lab, and our teaching opportunities for students. I appreciate very much all the work you do in your respective areas.
