A new class of clinical residents joined the Veterinary Clinical Sciences and Comparative Pathobiology<\/a> Departments this summer, embarking on a three year journey into specialty training that represents the next phase of their careers as veterinarians. A total of 17 first-year residents, representing eleven different specialty areas, began their residencies July 15 with an extensive orientation program.

The residencies provide advanced training in a chosen specialty and preparation for obtaining board certification as specialists, while also offering research and teaching opportunities. Please help extend a warm welcome to PVM\u2019s newest clinical residents, who are listed below along with their area of specialization and previous experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Clinical Residents<\/strong>

Dr. Stephanie Brooks<\/strong> (DVM 2021, University of Sydney, Australia) \u2013 Large Animal Medicine<\/em>

Experience<\/span>: Equine Ambulatory Veterinarian (2022) \u2013 Three Counties Equine Hospital in Tewkesbury, UK; Equine Intern (2022) \u2013 Matamata Veterinary Services, New Zealand; Visiting Veterinarian (2023) \u2013 Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, Oregon State University, Cornell University, Louisiana State University and UC Davis. Most recently, Dr. Brooks served as an Equine Veterinarian at Matamata Veterinary Services in New Zealand.

Dr. Kaitlyn Coleman<\/strong> (DVM 2021, Tuskegee University) \u2013 Large Animal Surgery<\/em>

Experience<\/span>: Equine Medicine and Surgery Internship (2022) \u2013 Peterson Smith Equine Hospital and Complete Care, Florida; Equine CT Imaging and Surgical Fellow (2023) \u2013 Brazos Valley Equine Hospitals, Texas. Most recently, Dr. Coleman completed a Large Animal Rotating Internship (Equine Focus) at Texas A&M.

Dr. Cameron Craig<\/strong> (DVM 2022, University of Melbourne) \u2013 Diagnostic Imaging<\/em>

Experience<\/span>: Most recently, Dr. Craig completed a Rotating Internship at Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in Colorado.

Dr. Catherine Fiset<\/strong> (DVM 2022, University of Prince Edward Island) \u2013 Small Animal Medicine<\/em>

Experience<\/span>: Small Animal Rotating Internship (2023) \u2013 VCA Canada, Calgary Animal Referral & Emergency Centre. Most recently, Dr. Fiset completed a Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialty Internship at Purdue University.

Dr. Bruce Graves<\/strong> (DVM 2023, Ross University) \u2013 Small Animal Medicine<\/em>

Experience<\/span>: Associate Veterinarian (2023) \u2013 IndyVet Specialty and Referral Center, Indianapolis, Indiana. Most recently, Dr. Graves completed a Rotating Internship at BluePearl Veterinary Specialty Center in Langhorn, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Yasumasa Iimori<\/strong> (DVM 2017, Nihon University, Japan; PhD 2021, Osaka Prefecture University, Japan) \u2013 Emergency and Critical Care<\/em>

Experience<\/span>: Associate Veterinarian (2022) \u2013 Iimori Animal Hospital, Hyogo, Japan; Postdoctoral Researcher (2023) \u2013 University of Pennsylvania. Most recently, Dr. Iimori completed a Small Animal Emergency & Critical Care Internship at Oregon State University.

Dr. Kosuke Kinoshita<\/strong> (DVM 2020, Kagoshima University, Japan) \u2013 Diagnostic Imaging<\/em>

Experience<\/span>: General Practitioner (2022) \u2013 Wakayama Inter Animal Hospital, Japan; Clinical Rotating Intern (2022) \u2013 Osaka Metropolitan University Veterinary Medical Center, Japan; Imaging Research Assistant (2023) \u2013 Purdue University. Most recently, Dr. Kinoshita served as a Diagnostic Imaging Specialty Intern at the University of Guelph in Canada.

Dr. Julie McLaughlin<\/strong> (DVM 2022, The Ohio State University) \u2013 Ophthalmology<\/em>

Experience<\/span>: Intern Veterinarian (2023) \u2013 Littleton Equine Medical Center, Colorado. Most recently Dr. McLaughlin served as a Rotating Intern Veterinarian at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital in Massachusetts.

Dr. Vanessa Passenegg<\/strong> (MMV 2020, University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna, Austria)\u2013 Emergency and Critical Care<\/em>

Experience<\/span>: Rotating Internship (2021) \u2013 University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, Austria; Internship focused on Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care (2023), Vetsuisse Zurich, Switzerland. Most recently, Dr. Passenegg completed an internship in anesthesia at Vetsuisse Zurich in Switzerland.

Dr. Erin Paul-Stewart<\/strong> (DVM 2023, Purdue University) \u2013 Oncology<\/em>

Experience<\/span>: Most recently, Dr. Paul-Stewart completed a Small Animal Rotating Internship at the University of Wisconsin \u2013 Madison.

Dr. Kristin Reichert<\/strong> (DVM 2022, University of Wisconsin \u2013 Madison) \u2013 Small Animal Surgery<\/em>

Experience<\/span>: Small Animal Rotating Internship (2023) \u2013 University of Pennsylvania. Most recently, Dr. Reichert completed a Surgical Oncology Specialty Internship at the University of Florida.

Dr. Megan Riley<\/strong> (DVM 2023, Purdue University) \u2013 Small Animal Medicine<\/em>

Experience<\/span>: Most recently, Dr. Riley completed a Small Animal Rotating Internship at Tufts University.

Dr. Walker Smith<\/strong> (DVM 2023, Lincoln Memorial University, Tennessee) \u2013 Small Animal Surgery<\/em>

Experience<\/span>: Most recently, Dr. Smith completed a Small Animal Rotating Internship at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University.

Dr. Laura Tran<\/strong> (DVM 2022, UC Davis) \u2013 Cardiology<\/em>

Experience<\/span>: Most recently, Dr. Tran completed a Cardiology Specialty Internship at San Diego Veterinary Cardiology in California.

Dr. Alejandro Vargas<\/strong> (DVM 2022, National University of Costa Rica) \u2013 Anesthesia<\/em>

Experience<\/span>: Veterinarian (2023) \u2013 National University of Costa Rica. Most recently, Dr. Vargas completed a Large Animal Rotating Internship at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan, Canada.

Dr. Alison Vancouver<\/strong> (DVM 2019, Western University of Health Sciences) \u2013 Clinical Pathology, Department of Comparative Pathobiology<\/em>

Experience<\/span>: Clinical Pathology Externship (2019-2020) \u2013 Purdue University. Most recently, Dr. Vancouver worked as a general practitioner at Northgate Pet Clinic in Decatur, Illinois, and then at Stadium Veterinary Services in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Dr. Zachary Yaufman<\/strong> (DVM 2022, The Ohio State University) \u2013 Oncology<\/em>

Experience<\/span>: Small Animal Specialty Practice Intern (2022-2023) \u2013 VCA SouthPaws Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Center; Medical Oncology Resident (2023-2024) Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine.
