antimicrobial resistance.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Several Purdue Veterinary Medicine faculty members are among the Purdue University researchers recognized in a first-of-the-year report from the university on research-related achievements.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The listing of notable research grants received by Purdue faculty and staff included four projects that were awarded SPARK (<strong>S<\/strong>upporting <strong>P<\/strong>artnering for <strong>A<\/strong>dvanced <strong>R<\/strong>esearch teamwor<strong>K<\/strong>) funding for the fall 2023 round, including one involving Dr. Rafael Neves, assistant professor of food animal production medicine in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences and section head for the Bovine Field Service.&nbsp;Dr. Neves is on an interdisciplinary team working on a project entitled, \u201cOne Health Solutions to Antimicrobial Resistance.\u201d Other team members include Dr. Mohit Verma, assistant professor of agricultural and biological engineering, and Dr. Jonathan Pasternak, assistant professor of animal sciences.&nbsp;The <a href=\"https:\/\/click.communicate.purdue.edu\/?qs=1f97f6a1ad04ec109757049457c4515405476271153dec4ad63742ee787f1eac766a3d55c625667be01216a457bfdb80d8e9874a6a0b7dfe73afa534007734b4\"><strong>SPARK<\/strong><\/a> program provides up to $100,000 for critical development activities linked to external grant proposals of $7 million or more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" in a list of new NIH incentive awardees.&nbsp;Dr. Marxa Figueiredo, associate professor of <a href=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/bms\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">basic medical sciences<\/a>, is one of several Purdue faculty members who each received $50,000 to support their applications for NIH <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/research\/oevprp\/funding-and-grant-writing\/funding\/nih-targeted-funding-opportunities-initiative.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>new R01\/U01<\/strong><\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/research\/oevprp\/funding-and-grant-writing\/funding\/nih-targeted-funding-opportunities-initiative-r01-program.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>competing renewal R01<\/strong><\/a> awards.&nbsp; Dr. Figueiredo\u2019s project is entitled, \u201cOptimizing Myodepot for Propep Therapy by Microgel Gene Delivery.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Figueiredo also is one of two PVM faculty members to receive Purdue AgSEED funding. Dr. Figueiredo, as project leader, and her collaborators, received support for the project entitled, \u201cInvestigating anti-microbial compounds for treating multidrug resistant infections and enhancing endogenous tissue repair.\u201d The other PVM faculty member receiving AgSEED funding is Dr. Deepti Pillai, clinical associate professor of diagnostic microbiology and <a href=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/addl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory<\/a> section head for Serology and Virology.
