The year also will provide an opportunity to look back on a century-and-a-half of serving as one of the nation\u2019s leading land-grant universities.\u00a0 Click here to <a href=\"https:\/\/takegiantleaps.com\/\">view the 150 Years of Giant Leaps website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Purdue Veterinary Medicine\u2019s 60<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary celebrations will kick-off with a special event Friday, March 1 at the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.invma.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IVMA<\/a>) annual meeting in Indianapolis.\u00a0 Festivities will continue with a variety of special events and activities in the subsequent weeks and months.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive wp-image-1175 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/VET-MED-60th-Anniversary_PVM_V2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"176\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/VET-MED-60th-Anniversary_PVM_V2.png 728w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/VET-MED-60th-Anniversary_PVM_V2-300x132.png 300w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/VET-MED-60th-Anniversary_PVM_V2-533x235.png 533w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>Particularly noteworthy is a planned international continuing education program that will feature an eight-day course (approximately 30 hours of continuing education) in Belize and Guatemala with the Belize Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic\/Wildlife Institute, focusing on multiple aspects of wildlife medicine and rehabilitation. This course will expand veterinary professionals\u2019 knowledge of best practices for wildlife medicine, conservation, rehabilitation, and rescue techniques. Participants will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experiences with a variety of wildlife species throughout Latin America and learn from some of the top wildlife veterinary and conservation professionals in the region.\u00a0 The program will be offered April 7 &#8211; 14, 2019 and will be limited to 20 participants.\u00a0 More details about the course are available at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vet.purdue.edu\/ce\">www.vet.purdue.edu\/ce<\/a>.\u00a0 Offered through Purdue Veterinary Medicine\u2019s Offices of <a href=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/global\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Global Engagement<\/a> and Lifelong Learning, the Wildlife Medicine and Rehabilitation International Continuing Education Program promises to be a unique educational and cultural opportunity associated with the College\u2019s 60<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>Additional planned outings include trips suitable for families of PVM alumni, faculty and staff to Fair Oaks Farm in June and the Indianapolis Zoo in July.\u00a0 To officially mark the day of the College\u2019s 60<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary, a PVM Birthday Celebration will be held September 9, 2019, when, 60 years prior, Purdue\u2019s very first class of veterinary students attended their first day of classes in the newly minted School of Veterinary Science and Medicine, as it was called then.\u00a0 The 60<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary celebrations will reach their climax during the 2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Purdue Veterinary Conference<\/a>, which will feature a special event called, \u201cPVM through the Decades\u2014 60th Celebration!\u201d to be held Thursday, September 19, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The College also will be involved in the University\u2019s sesquicentennial celebrations.\u00a0 The four topics of discussion chosen by the University to provide an opportunity for cross-disciplinary input and debate, are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Giant Leaps in Space &#8211; Earth, Exploration and Economics<\/li>\n<li>Giant Leaps in AI, Algorithms and Automation &#8211; Balancing Humanity and Technology<\/li>\n<li>Giant Leaps in Health, Longevity and Quality of Life<\/li>\n<li>Giant Leaps to a Sustainable World &#8211; Innovate Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive alignright wp-image-2020 size-medium col-md-4 col-sm-12 col-xs-12\" src=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/150GL_YRS_V_BG_RGB-300x180.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/150GL_YRS_V_BG_RGB-300x180.png 300w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/150GL_YRS_V_BG_RGB-391x235.png 391w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/150GL_YRS_V_BG_RGB.png 508w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The University characterizes the Sesquicentennial as a time to redefine the scope of land-grant universities and challenge global leaders to take GIANT LEAPS in solving worldwide problems.\u00a0 The four topics for the year reflect proposals and suggestions from faculty, students, staff, alumni and community members.\u00a0 Plans call for thought-provoking discussions, debates, panels and workshops that will bring leading thinkers and doers to the university.
