Learning and networking opportunities for the entire veterinary team make the 2018 Purdue Veterinary Conference<\/a> the place to be in September!\u00a0 Registration is still available for the 2018 conference, which takes place September 18-22 on Purdue\u2019s West Lafayette campus.\u00a0 Attendees can earn up to 26 continuing education (CE) credits during the conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Elanco Human-Animal Bond Lecture, which is free and open to the public, officially kicks off the conference on Tuesday, September 18.  The lecture features Dr. Sally Irvin, the founder of the Indiana Canine Assistance Network, who will speak about the role of assistance dogs in healing.<\/p>\n\n\n

The 2018 schedule features tracks for small animal, veterinary nursing, ruminant, swine, equine, exotics, shelter medicine, and emergency preparedness, as well as practice management and communication.  In addition, two exciting FREE workshops will be offered during the conference!  Zoetis is sponsoring a unique session called \u201cYou are You. Now Isn\u2019t that Pleasant?\u201d \u2013 Communication Team Building Tips from Dr. Seuss, on Thursday, September 20.  Then on Friday, September 21, the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory<\/a> will host the Field Necropsy Tips and Tricks lab for veterinarians.  Seats in these workshops are limited, and registration is required.  The conference is sponsored by Hill\u2019s Pet Nutrition, Nutrena, Banfield Pet Hospital, Purina Veterinary Diets, the Indiana State Department of Health\/Indiana Board of Animal Health, Elanco, Zoetis, and Coyne Veterinary Services.  Click here to view the full conference schedule<\/a>, and don\u2019t forget to check out the special events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conference also includes special luncheon keynote lectures on diversity and wellness.  On Wednesday, Dr. Carlos Risco, the dean of Oklahoma State University\u2019s College of Veterinary Medicine, will challenge conference-goers to dig deeper into the importance of diversity and inclusion in veterinary medicine.  Thursday\u2019s keynote features Dr. George Brenner, a licensed clinical social worker, marriage and family therapist, and clinical addictions counselor familiar with the challenges facing veterinary professionals.  Dr. Brenner will address tough wellness issues facing the profession by exploring personal and professional challenges and identifying coping mechanisms.  In addition to giving the keynote, Dr. Brenner also will present a session on motivational interviewing, which involves a communication style that is collaborative, empathetic, and enhances the motivation of clients to care for their animal companions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Kate Creevy, the lead veterinarian for the Dog Aging Project, will present the Dr. Jack and Naomi Stockton lecture on Thursday afternoon, September 20.  The Dog Aging Project studies aging and age-related disease in thousands of companion animals throughout the country.  The goal of the project is to identify the genetic and environmental factors that shape variations in health span and lifespan, and investigate whether the canine health span can be increased through pharmacological interventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

USDA National Veterinary Accreditation modules also will be offered Wednesday \u2013 Friday during the conference. Attendees will earn one Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) training unit and one CE credit with each module.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the Purdue Veterinary Conference offers attendees a variety of outstanding special events for networking, celebration, and fun!  Register for special events like the Awards Celebration Dinner on Wednesday and join us in honoring our tremendous alumni and faculty.  As part of PVM\u2019s homecoming, the Class of 1968 will be honored as they celebrate their Golden Anniversary at Thursday\u2019s Meet Me @ the Mixer event. Also, do not miss a special performance by the Purdue Musical Organizations\u2019 spectacular Purduettes, as well as recognition of the graduates of the reunion classes of 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998, 2003, 2008, and 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New for 2018, the Exhibit Hall Social will offer attendees a chance to take a break from the lectures by enjoying the tradeshow.  Attendees can earn as many as two CE credits by visiting the Exhibit Hall during the PVM conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
