Small animal presentations covered such topics as hypothermia, urology, rehabilitation, and anesthesia. Topics addressed in the large animal sessions included ruminant and bovine medicine, equine dentistry, and diagnostic imaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lunchtime presentation, given by Christie Siminski, RVT, of Hill\u2019s Pet Nutrition, Inc., focused on recommendations for improved teamwork and communication in practice.\u00a0 Earlier in the day, Vetamac\u2019s Heidi Lescun, RVT, gave a talk on the form and function of the anesthetic machine.\u00a0The closing session about &#8220;Pets, Parks, and Parasites&#8221; was presented by Dr. Sarah Peton, of Elanco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the afternoon, attendees heard talks on transfusion, cardiology, and pain management. In addition, the event gave participants the opportunity to develop their professional networks while interacting with one another and the vendors attending the symposium.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Besides Dr. Brown, eight other Purdue Veterinary Medicine staff and faculty gave talks, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Tami Lind, BS, RVT, VTS (ECC)<\/strong>, emergency and critical care veterinary technician supervisor \u2013 \u201cFever vs. Hyperthermia\u201d<\/li><li><strong>Julie Commons, RVT, VTS (SAIM)<\/strong>, small animal nephrology\/urology technologist \u2013 \u201cSubcutaneous Ureteral Bypass (SUB) System in the Feline Patient\u201d<\/li><li><strong>Jessica Bowditch, RVT, CCRP, VTS (Physical Rehabilitation)<\/strong>, neurology and physical rehabilitation technician \u2013 \u201cStifle Your Excitement: Rehabilitation for the Orthopedic Patient\u201d<\/li><li><strong>Kyle Clever, RVT, CVT, CF, AAS<\/strong>, Equine Field Service technician \u2013 \u201cEquine Dentistry\u201d<\/li><li><strong>Christy DeYoung, BS, RVT, VTS-DI<\/strong>, diagnostic imaging technologist \u2013 \u201cDiagnostic Imaging\u201d<\/li><li><strong>Katie Mowery, BS, RVT, VTS (ECC)<\/strong>, emergency and critical care technologist \u2013 \u201cTransfusion Perfusion:\u00a0 An Overview of Blood Products\u201d<\/li><li><strong>Kimberly Sederquist, BS, RVT, VTS (Cardiology)<\/strong>, cardiology technologist \u2013 \u201cBradyarrhythmias Give Me Tachycardia\u201d<\/li><li><strong>Dr. Emily Curry<\/strong>, clinical assistant professor of mobile surgery and shelter medicine \u2013 \u201cTaking the Sting Out of Neutering: Purdue Priority 4 Paws Anesthetic and Pain Management Protocols\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event was made possible by symposium sponsors Elanco, Hill\u2019s, Noah\u2019s Animal Hospital, Vetamac, and Woodland Veterinary Center.
