{"id":12934,"date":"2021-07-30T12:16:50","date_gmt":"2021-07-30T16:16:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qa.vet.purdue.edu\/news\/?p=12934"},"modified":"2021-08-06T12:22:34","modified_gmt":"2021-08-06T16:22:34","slug":"dr-laurie-adams-retires-as-beloved-veterinary-lecturer-with-well-wishes-from-faculty-and-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/dr-laurie-adams-retires-as-beloved-veterinary-lecturer-with-well-wishes-from-faculty-and-students.php","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Laurie Adams Retires as Beloved Veterinary Lecturer with Well-wishes from Faculty and Students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Bittersweet is the word that came to mind as Purdue Veterinary Medicine students, faculty and staff offered congratulations and farewell wishes to Dr. Laurie Adams, Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Administration, on the occasion of her retirement.&nbsp; After more than 13 years of teaching students in the College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Adams retired effective Wednesday, July 28.&nbsp; Colleagues and students were able to come by the Alumni Faculty Lounge that afternoon to express appreciation to Dr. Adams and sign a mat that will be placed in a frame with a picture of the college\u2019s Continuum sculpture as a recognition gift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"877\" height=\"585\" src=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/dr-adams-retires.png\" alt=\"Dr Laurie Adams and her husband \" class=\"wp-image-12936\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/dr-adams-retires.png 877w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/dr-adams-retires-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/dr-adams-retires-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/vet.purdue.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/dr-adams-retires-352x235.png 352w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 877px) 100vw, 877px\" \/><figcaption>Dr. Laurie Adams, senior lecturer, with her husband and Purdue Veterinary Medicine colleague, Dr. Larry Adams, on the occasion of her retirement Wednesday, July 28, when she was presented with a photograph of the Continuum sculpture with a mat autographed by well-wishers.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A 1984 DVM graduate of Auburn University, Dr. Adams completed a small animal veterinary internship at the University of Minnesota before working in private veterinary practice, first in River Grove, Ill., and then at animal hospitals in the Minneapolis \u2013 St. Paul area.&nbsp; She first joined Purdue Veterinary Medicine\u2019s instructional team in 2000 to teach in the Applications and Integrations (A&amp;I) courses, which utilize problem-based learning as part of the first- and second-year DVM curriculum.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Six years later, Dr. Adams stepped away from academia to pursue interests in private practice in the West Lafayette area. She also worked for two years as a locum in the college\u2019s Small Animal Primary Care service before returning to the instructional team in 2014 to again teach in the A&amp;I courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDr. Adams has served as an excellent coach and tutor to many classes of Purdue DVM students,\u201d said Dr. Kathy Salisbury, associate dean for academic affairs. \u201cShe has high expectations for the students and she helped the students to achieve them. She always worked to improve the students\u2019 learning experience.
