Welcome

Our mission is to educate all members of the Veterinary Team - technicians, veterinary practitioners, clinical specialists and veterinary and biomedical research scientists. In addition to our professional DVM degree program we therefore offer the associate and BS degrees in Veterinary Technology , graduate training at both the MS and PhD levels, and post-DVM programs and residencies in a variety of clinical and diagnostic specialties.

All of our curricula are student-oriented and innovative. In 2004 we completed the implementation of our new DVM curriculum. Key components of this curriculum include clinical tracking options in the 4th year, a large array of electives in the third year and a significant component of problem-based learning courses in the first and second years. Considerable emphasis has been placed on integrating computer-assisted educational technologies into our programs. In fact, we are even developing a web and CD-ROM based distance learning to complement our on-campus technology offerings. You can learn more about all of our educational programs by browsing our Admissions, Programs and our Continuing Education sections.

Biomedical and veterinary research also are top School priorities. Excellent programs have been developed in paralysis intervention research, the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, equine sports medicine, infectious disease research, and research relating to the human-animal bond. More information regarding these programs can be found by browsing through the Research Home Page.

The School also is home to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) and the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL), major referral centers for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of all species of domestic, wildlife, and exotic animals. The Hospital has a staff of more than 45 veterinary specialists in disciplines such as dermatology, ophthalmology, small and large animal surgery and medicine, radiology, clinical pathology, and pathology to support referring veterinarians throughout Indiana and the Midwest. The ADDL is regarded as one of the best diagnostic laboratories in the nation and offers state of the art diagnostic expertise in parasitology, virology, bacteriology, serology toxicology, and avian and mammalian anatomic pathology.

We hope you enjoy your journey through the Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine and its many web pages.
