School of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital Your Visit Before Your Appointment We see patients in the Small Animal Hospital at the PU-VTH by appointment only. Before an appointment can be made we require a referral from your regular veterinarian. Once your regular veterinarian has referred you to the PU-VTH you can contact us to schedule an appointment. A referral is not necessary in the Large Animal Hospital. (Small Animal Hospital (765) 494-1107, Large Animal Hospital (765) 494-8548) Please bring a copy of your animal's medical record including vaccination status, a history regarding your animal’s condition and recent test results, if your regular veterinarian has not faxed it to us. If your animal had x-rays taken, please bring them with you. If you have any questions regarding the cost estimates, length of stay, or medicating or feeding your animal on the day of your appointment, these questions are often answered by our receptionist when your appointment is made. Your Animal's Admission When you arrive at the PU-VTH for your pet’s appointment, please remember to give your license plate number to the receptionist. This helps us maintain available parking for our clients. The receptionist will work with you to get the necessary paperwork completed and will contact the veterinary student who will be assigned to your pet. Please be aware that in the event of an emergency admission, you may encounter a slight delay. We appreciate your patience. Emergencies If your animal needs emergency care, please take your animal to your regular veterinarian for an initial assessment. Your regular veterinarian will contact the PU-VTH and speak to the emergency clinician on duty to discuss their findings prior to emergency admission. Your regular veterinarian will then advise you on the cost estimate for work-up and treatment, prognosis and the time you should arrive at the PU-VTH. Please be ready to leave as soon as possible after your regular veterinarian has made the emergency call. The sooner you arrive, the sooner emergency care can be administered to your animal. Consultation Calls If your animal has not been seen at PU-VTH and you have questions about your animal’s condition, please have your regular veterinarian call for a consultation. Because of time constraints involving patient care and teaching assignments, our clinical specialists will return consultation calls from veterinarians only. |
