School of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital Pharmacy Our Services Information for Clients The Purdue Veterinary Pharmacy fills medication orders for patients of the Small Animal Hospital and the Large Animal Hospital during their hospital visit. The Purdue Veterinary Pharmacy also fills prescriptions that are to be sent home with patients after their hospital visit as well as for patients seen by the Small Animal Community Practice and Large Animal Community Practice services. Refills can be requested by phone; it is best if we are given 24 hours notice. Prescriptions can be shipped via Fed/Ex or UPS. Compounded Prescriptions (customized) can be filled by the Purdue Veterinary Pharmacy upon request of the veterinarian. The Purdue Veterinary Pharmacy can only fill prescriptions written by Purdue staff veterinarians. Refills for prescriptions of “human medicine used in veterinary cases” can be transferred to a local pharmacy if it is more convenient for the client. The client should give their local pharmacy our contact information and the prescription number and ask the local pharmacy to call for the transfer information. Questions or information regarding medication(s) dispensed to a patient can be obtained by contacting the VTH Pharmacy or the veterinarian. Information for Referring Veterinarians The Purdue Veterinary Pharmacy functions as a resource for information for Referral Veterinarians. The Purdue Veterinary Pharmacy can assist the Referral Veterinarian with questions regarding the availability of medications, recent developments, compounding questions, etc. By charter, the Veterinary Pharmacy cannot sell medications to Referral Veterinarians nor fill prescriptions written by a referral veterinarian. In the event of an emergency situation when the referral veterinarian cannot procure needed medication, the Veterinary Pharmacy can act as a resource to assist in procurement
