How to be a successful Distance Learning Student What the VT-DLP Involves Welcome to the Veterinary Technology Distance Learning Program (VT-DLP) at Purdue University. This program is designed to allow a student to gain the knowledge, information, and skills necessary to function as a veterinary technician. This particular module will help you to gain a better idea of what will be required and expected of you in order to successfully complete the VT-DLP. The on-line VT-DLP handbook at the web site should provide you with much of the information about the mechanics of participating in this program. You are encouraged to consult this handbook if you have general questions and then e-mail either Dr. Bill or Paige Allen if the handbook is unable to answer your specific question. What challenges will you, the student, face in the Distance Learning environment? Distance education allows you to gain information and knowledge without having to leave your current work situation or relocate to a campus in another city or state (or country). Most distance learning situations allow you to work self-paced within a specified time frame. The educational content can be assimilated at the learner's self-determined pace. However, there are several challenges that are unique to distance education and learning at a distance that you will need to confront compared to the typical on-campus student. What do you think is the number ONE challenge for students involved in distance learning programs?
