Message From The Dean
It is a pleasure to welcome you, the future members of the veterinary profession, to our School. We know, from past experience, that you are an exceptional group of students, and we hope that many of you will return later this year as our colleagues and members of the PUSVM Class of 2012.
In the meantime, I can assure you that members of our Admissions Committee and others will be taking a serious look at you and your credentials. I urge you to take an equally serious look at us! Take advantage of your visit to find out all that you can about us. Talk to us, walk around the School, sit in some classes, review the posters in the corridors, and visit our laboratories and clinics. You are welcome, and our faculty, staff, and student body will be happy to meet and chat with you.
As a School, we take our mission (professional education, undergraduate education, graduate education, diagnostic services, and research) seriously. We are actively planning for the future of the veterinary profession and our School's role within it. We are excited by our vision of the future and have implemented and continue to improve a professional curriculum to prepare the future members of our profession in this increasingly global society. We are also proud of our facilities. A major addition was added to Lynn Hall and opened in the Fall of 1995. It houses new hospital, teaching, learning, and research laboratory space. A new large animal isolation facility, an annex to our existing Equine Health Center with its state-of-the-art high-speed treadmill, and a new radiation therapy facility were recently completed. Additional teaching and research facilities are being planned. These, together with laboratory animal facilities and the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, complete the School of Veterinary Medicine complex and position us very well for the foreseeable future.
It's an exciting time for our School. We look forward to meeting you.
Willie M. Reed Dean
Message From The Associate Dean And The Admissions Committee
Welcome to the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine! As prospective members of the Class of 2012, you are to be congratulated on your outstanding credentials. You come to us from a wide variety of geographic, educational, and experiential backgrounds. As similar diversity in the student body is present both in our School and across the entire campus, you should feel right at home with us regardless of your background.
We hope that your visit with us will be both informative and enjoyable. We want you to be able to capture a sense of the excitement that exists throughout our School and the University. The enrollment in our School may seem small when compared to the 39,000 total students on this campus; however, we are a vital part of the total University. The Veterinary Medical "family" is real at Purdue! Our faculty, staff, and students have a deep sense of caring for each other and of active involvement in our missions of teaching, research, and service. Our nearly 2700 veterinary alumni carry a genuine feeling of pride in their veterinary degree from Purdue. As you return home after this time at Purdue, we hope that you will have seen and heard the benefits of a veterinary degree from Purdue and will be ready to join our Class of 2012.
John F. Van Vleet Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Chair, Admissions Committee
