Medical Discovery Resource Unit
                  MDRU

The Medical Discovery Resource Unit (MDRU) mission is to support
campus-wide interdisciplinary research by providing the professional expertise (histology, pathology, imaging, investigative surgery, etc.) and facilities needed to support translational biomedical investigation. It provides collaborative support for investigators in various academic departments on campus, in Discovery Park, and in the local private-sector. It provides opportunities for hands-on learning and training of graduate, undergraduate and professional students with an interest in comparative biomedical research.

The MDRU and affiliated faculty are an integral part of the new Indiana Clinical & Translational Science Institute. The resources of the MDRU are available to CTSI investigators and projects.

MDRU organization & affiliated faculty

The MDRU facilities/groups include:

Core Laboratory for Image Analysis and Multidimensional Applications

The Core Laboratory for Image Analysis and Multidimensional Applications (CRISTAL) is a shared applications laboratory which supports research and teaching with capabilities for 3D visualization and reconstruction (i.e. CT, MRI, and confocal images), image processing and analysis, light microscopy. R
esearch is focused on multiresolution client-server environments for fast navigation and search of high-resolution image databases

Purdue University Cytometry Laboratories (PUCL)

The Purdue University Cytometry Laboratories (PUCL), a Purdue University Cancer Center core facility is a state-of the art facility for advanced cellular analysis. The interdisciplinary environment links biomedical engineering to basic biology via a variety of sensitive detection systems including flow cytometry, confocal and multiphoton imaging and advanced image processing in 2d and 3d environments. Additionally, PUCL has several new technologies under development including multispectral detection and classification systems, biodetection capabilities and advanced imaging modalities. PUCL is also affiliated with the Bindley Bioscience Center's Cytomics and Imaging Core.
