Dr. Bonnie Rush
Department Head and Professor, Equine Internal Medicine, Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine

"I have a much stronger appreciation for veterinary students who represent URM and particularly those that are first-generation college students. I have a better understanding of their challenges.

"As department head, you interact with many different groups of people — faculty, staff, students and external constituents — every day. It is important to understand how a person from an underrepresented group may view each interaction differently."
