This individual will play a leadership role in developing a Public Health Track for veterinary students and contribute to the graduate program in epidemiology by offering a graduate course or field experiences in their area of expertise. They will be expected to establish an interdisciplinary and externally-funded research program in areas such as environmental health, gene-environment interactions, infectious diseases, pharmacoepidemiology, syndromic/disease surveillance, computer modeling, international public health, or comparative medicine. It is expected that approximately 60% of the person's time will involve research, 20% teaching, and 20% serving as mentor to veterinary students in the Public Health Track. The individual will join a team consisting of three epidemiologists and experts in GIS and computer programming in the Section. Current areas of faculty research interest in the Section include disease surveillance and zoonoses, pharmacoepidemiology, environmental epidemiology, risk assessment, food safety, and the human-animal bond. Purdue is a Research One University with outstanding graduate and research programs in the life sciences, biomedical and health-care engineering, cancer biology, neurological sciences, and infectious diseases. Opportunities exist for research collaboration with faculty in the MPH degree program in the Department of Health and Kinesiology at Purdue University, the Schools of Health Science, Pharmacy, and Nursing at Purdue University, the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, IN, and pharmaceutical companies, in addition to state and federal health agencies. The candidate should be a medical professional (veterinarian preferred but not required) with graduate training and experience in epidemiology and public health practice (e.g., EIS or military service). Preference will be given to applicants with doctoral (DrPH or PhD) level training. Review of applications will begin April 1, 2008, and continue until a suitable candidate is selected. Applicants should submit a curriculum vita, contact information for 3 references, and a personal statement to Dr. George Moore, Chair, Public Health Search Committee, Purdue University, VPTH Building, 725 Harrison Street, West Lafayette, IN 47907-2027. Inquiries can be sent to Dr. Moore at gemoore@purdue.edu or Dr. Harm HogenEsch at hogenesch@purdue.edu . Hayward Endowed Chair in Genetics, Genetic Epidemiology, and Comparative Medicine
Posted: SPRING 2007
The Department of Comparative Pathobiology in the School of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University invites applications for the Hayward Endowed Chair in Genetics, Genetic Epidemiology and Comparative Medicine from individuals with an established record of scholarship in comparative genomics and genomic approaches to disease prevention. Individuals with expertise in the areas of comparative oncology and environment-gene interactions in the etiology of cancer are especially invited to apply. The School is committed to building a program in comparative genomics and has dedicated three additional faculty positions. The successful candidate for the Hayward Endowed Chair will have the opportunity to participate in the search and recruitment of these positions with the goal of building a focused research and training program. For information on the department please visit http://www.vet.purdue.edu/cpb/.
Purdue University is undergoing a rapid expansion of life sciences and biomedical research. The University has an NCI-designated Cancer Center (http://www.cancer.purdue.edu/) and new laboratory facilities for interdisciplinary research in Discovery Park (http://www.purdue.edu/dp), including the Bindley Bioscience Center and the Birck Nanotechnology Center. Additional opportunities for collaboration and translational research
are available through the expanding cooperation with the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis.
Candidates should have a PhD, MD and/or DVM or equivalent degrees and a successful record of scholarship and extramural research funding. They should have a commitment to the educational and outreach missions of the University. The successful candidate is expected to have the qualifications for appointment at the Full Professor level. This is a ten month academic year appointment.
Applicants should submit via e-mail a complete curriculum vita, statement of research and teaching interests, and the names and addresses of three references in PDF format to
Dr. Harm HogenEsch, Department of Comparative Pathobiology, Purdue University.
Email: whiteb@purdue.edu. Review of applications will begin June 1, 2007, and continue
until the position is filled. Women and individuals in underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply. Purdue University is an Equal Opportunity/Equal Access/Affirmative Action employer.
