Combined Medicine Mixer and Auction
Medicine Mixer Reception Connects Classmates
Alumni celebrating class reunions joined colleagues, faculty, staff and students and the Fall Conference Medicine Mixer Wednesday, September 19. The annual event held in the Purdue Memorial Union Ballrooms featured food, fellowship and opportunities to have reunion class photos taken. Each reunion class was introduced and the 25th reunion class members received a commemorative paperweight during a brief program that preceded the annual live-auction fund-raiser.
PVM Auction Raises $19,500!
The 21st Annual PVM Auction coincided with the Fall Conference Medicine Mixer Reception, and included both a live and silent bidding. Thanks to the wonderful participation of PVM alumni, faculty, staff, and students, the College raised $19,500. A special thank you goes out to the individuals, local businesses and corporate donors who helped make the successful event possible by donating wonderful items to bid on, and to all the attendees who took the advice of Dean Willie Reed, to “bid until it hurts!” The auction was dedicated in memory of Dr. John Van Vleet, professor emeritus of comparative pathobiology and former associate dean for academic affairs, who was a long-time advocate and supporter of the auction. Mrs. Nancy Van Vleet was recognized at the start of the auction and the auction proceeds were added to the Dr. John Van Vleet Auction Scholarship.
Dean Reed started the bidding by auctioning the first item, which continued a tradition of selling the shirt worn by PVM retiree Harry Latshaw. This year that T-shirt paid tribute to Dr. Van Vleet, and contained a number of his famous quotes, such as “I don’t do computers…” The T-shirt sold for $1,700.
Special thanks must go to Bill Synesael for donating his time to be the auctioneer, Kyle Clever (and his son, Tyler), and the many student volunteers for their assistance during the auction. Thanks also to the staff from Purdue Extended Campus who registered all the auction participants and ran the check-out process.
The success of the auction also reflects a lot of work from an amazing Auction Committee. A huge thank you goes to the committee members –Becky Bierman, Thad Blossom, Katie Brown, Ray Buchanan, Marti Burns, Deb Cessna, Barb Cochran, Danae de Vries (DVM Class of ’16), Kathryn Dittmer (DVM Class of ’15), Jessica Engen, Becky Hershey, Harry Latshaw, Carlene Linn, Bret Moore (DVM Class of ’15), Kathy Salisbury, Jeff Spielman, Danita Such, Brady Thompson (DVM Class of ’13), Jim Weisman, and Sue Wood. And, an extra huge thank you to Stephanie Botkin, the conference coordinator from Purdue Extended Campus.
